Nyota Ya Mikoko – The Launch of the Kenyan Mangrove Research Vessel

Nyota ya Mikoko , the Kenyan mangrove research vessel, was officially launched on July 26th 2020 during The International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem. The launch ceremony was held by the Kenya Forest Service at Lamu Island.

In attendance was the French Ambassador to Kenya, Her Excellency Aline Kuster-Menager as well as teams from Kenya Forest Services, IRD and CIRAD.

The research vessel was acquired by the Lamu Mikoko Project of the FSPI program of the French ministry of Europe and foreign affairs, in an effort to enhance mangrove conservation and rehabilitation in the Kenyan Coast. The teams also participated in the planting of 2500 mangrove seedlings.
